Too many people…

It’s THEME MEME day – WOOHOO!

I’ve written this post three times. This makes the fourth version of it. Why, you may ask, was it difficult to write a post about “too many people”? Well, here’s the deal, the first time I read what our THEME MEME subject was, a big ‘ole list of things went through my mind. I had to make myself stop writing them down because it was getting out of hand and you would have been either bored to tears or have tears running down your cheeks. (OK, some of them might have made you chuckle – I think!) But the big problem is that for the most part, the list was just downright depressing. I didn’t intend for it to be that way, it just happened.

I’m a pretty positive person and knowing that I could spew off 20 or 30 negative things that “too many people” do or don’t do didn’t match my sunny disposition. So, I tried to make another list chock full of (who really says that??) happy, positive and life affirming things that “too many people” do. Sorry to say, but it wasn’t easy! I found myself stumbling and honestly, having to think waaaay too hard on it.

In a moment of frustration I googled “too many people” to find inspiration. Guess what, I’m not the only one having this problem. I found everything from the general concept of “too many people in the world” to “too many people buy things they don’t need with money they don’t have trying to impress people they don’t even like.” I went through 10 search pages and didn’t find ONE reference that was positive! Not ONE.

So, I went back to my original list, certain that I had a couple worth sharing. I decided the following fit the bill:

Too many people didn’t look in the mirror after they put on that bathing suit. Hey, I’m no runway model, so I’m not making fun of people or saying I look fabulous. But I wear my favorite skirted bottom and have no chance of offending anyone with bodacious ta-ta’s falling out of the top. I’m just saying that the last time I went to the beach, there were simply “too many people” that were lied to by their spouse, boyfriend or sales clerk.  Look in the mirror next time people.

Too many people have never seen the sunrise or sunset. I find it amazing that there are people who have NEVER watched that glorious ball of fire come up over the horizon at the break of day. Or haven’t spent an hour just sitting on a hillside watching as the sun majestically slips away. Even in the dead of winter there is warmth to the sunrise that you can feel on your face. And when the sun sets, it leaves behind a beautiful sky that fills your soul with hope. I’ve been blessed to see the sun rise over the Atlantic Ocean, set over the Pacific Ocean and many places in between.  Too many people are missing out on one of nature’s most beautiful gifts.

How would you finish the sentence, “too many people…?” Post a comment or link up your own post to prove that there are positive things people do!!!

Wait to see a show, go to the movies, try out a restaurant, take a trip, whatever until someone else can go with them. You want to go to the Westminster Dog Show or eat at Morimotos but you can’t interest any friends or family in going with you? Go by yourself. You will have a wonderful time doing something you really really want to do and I guarantee you will have at least one interesting conversation with a total stranger who might just become a new friend.

I agree wholeheartedly! Before I was married I travelled quite a bit on business trips alone and never ate in my hotel room – always at a restaurant alone AND loved it! Went on vacations alone and to the movies. Not because I didn’t have anyone to go with, but because it was something I wanted to do and enjoy completely:)

Wouldn’t it have been nice to find a list that said — too many people volunteered or too many people donated food to local food banks, etc.?

YES! As I was thinking about all the cheerful positive things to put on a list, unfortunately, none of them truthfully started out with “too many people”:( They were all “not enough people….”
