Summers A Comin’

Summer is just around the corner and bathing suits are already in the stores. What’s the deal with that? I’m pretty sure many of us women prefer to put off our bathing suit buying until, say, June, when it becomes absolutely necessary.

We are boat people, our friends and family. And try as I may to enforce the “Nobody On My Boat Can Be Skinnier Than Me” rule, it doesn’t always work out. So here I am stuck with shakes and bars and continual promises that I will get my butt to the gym…when this cough is gone…when the kid goes back to school…next week for sure.

Now though, I have a whole new reason to get summer ready. The husband has bought a lake membership. Usually we head out to the Colorado River, trying to go at least once a month throughout the summer. Now though, we will (yay!) be able to hit the water every weekend. This private lake deal also includes water front camping, a pool, a miniature golf course and water slides. You can see why I so willingly went along with husband’s purchase, considering that the kids whole summer of fun has been pre-paid. Yes, it may seem like I’m a total kick ass wife, “Sure honey, you buy that membership and go out to the lake every weekend!”, but I have my own motives of course.

But alas, the good does come with the bad, otherwiseknown as the bathing suit. And so here I am, more determined as of yesterday than I have been, because of what the summer holds. Who has time to be self-conscious when there are water slides to slide, wake boards to be ridden and sandy beaches to be sat on?

What do you you and your family do for summer fun? Are there any trips you take? Is anyone dreading the evil bathing suit as much as me?

We always go to the beach in North Carolina for a week with my family…and I really need to go through my bathing suits and see if any fit. I’m dreading it. There’s the skinny phase suits, the “oh wow I got large suits”, maternity suit, and even a breastfeeding suit! Something is bound to fit. Hopefully not the maternity one.
